Before purchasing GitLab subscriptions or professional services , there is often a dilemma:
Whether to purchase licensing and professional services from this or another provider; Whether to purchase from the manufacturer or from a manufacturer’s partner.
That’s why I’ve gathered here questions that are important to ask, and can help you make an informed choice.

Here are important questions you should ask yourself about choosing a GitLab vendor to help you make a decision:

  1. Does the supplier thoroughly understand this product? Is this his “forte”?
  2. Will the supplier be able to provide a complete solution that also includes professional services, consulting, managed service or accompaniment when necessary? And will the price of the consultation or accompaniment be affordable?
  3. Does the supplier know the licensing issue in depth? Do you know the licensing model in depth, including all the hidden options? Does he know the potential pitfalls for the customers and how to warn them?
  4. Did this provider know how to guide you on how to use licenses properly, and avoid exceptions and fines?
  5. Did the supplier know how to guide you on how to save money on licensing? Does he care if you save money on licensing?
  6. Will the supplier care about you even after the purchase?
  7. Will he keep you updated on product changes? About new abilities? Does he share knowledge regularly?
  8. Will he also tell you about things that the product manufacturer may change in the licensing conditions and does not want the customers to be aware of it?
  9. Will the supplier be able to accompany you for years to come, with a permanent professional team?
  10. Will the provider provide you with a permanent Account Manager (and not changeable), who knows you and your needs, cares about you, and will also be available to you for a super-fast and professional response?
  11. Does the supplier have enough technological understanding of the product, so that he can provide backup if the manufacturer’s support fails to solve problems?
  12. Does the provider have a large team of professional experts in GitLab, with proven and cumulative experience?
  13. Does the supplier thoroughly understand the technological areas covered by the product? Namely SCM, CI/CD, Gen AI, Agile Planning (and more)
  14. Does the supplier also understand methodology in the field of knowledge and the content world of the product? Namely Version Control, CI/CD, Issue tracking, DevOps, DevSecOps, SAST (and more).
  15. Does the supplier hold the manufacturer’s official and up-to-date technology certification after passing certification tests?
  16. Do you provide recommendations that you have purchased licenses from or GitLab consulting, which can be provided to interested customers?
  17. Should we also provide an in-depth understanding of complementary products to GitLab, so that it can provide you with a broad response if necessary?
  18. Has the provider already provided the service in question to many customers, so you are not among the first he will learn about them?
  19. Has the supplier received recognition or awards from the manufacturer for his contribution to the product and the product’s user community?
