New: Visual Annotate 3.1

2013 is quickly coming to an end, but GoMidjets is looking forward to many good things in the coming year.

Just before the year is ending, we have released a new version of Visual Annotate, our cool annotating tool for developers and engineers using ClearCase, both UCM and Base. This tool saves time and energy in coping with bugs, runtime errors and conflicts.

What’s new?

New integration with Visual Studio!

Now you can launch Visual Annotate directly from within the VS dashboard, with one click! Annotate ClearCase Visual Studio

Click on any file in the solution explorer to reveal two options to launch Visual Annotate on the file: regular and including removed lines

The new integration works on Visual Studio 2012, 2012 and 2008. We’re currently adapting it to support Visual Studio 2013 too!

New integration with ClearCase Version Tree tool

ClearCase Version Tree AnnotateNow you can open the version tree, click on any leaf and immediately open Visual Annotate on this specific version!

This is very useful in many situations. For instance: if you must figure out what version a specific code line was checked in, and you have dozens of versions to compare one with another one… and another one… Using Visual Annotate you can find it just in a click!

New integration with ClearCase Project Explorer

Now you can launch Visual Annotate from within any file in the activity’s change-set, in order to quickly determine what lines have been added in this specific file version

New integration with ClearCase History Browser

Now you launch Visual Annotate from within any event or version, and immediately get the context to the relevant code lines.

All of these new features come with the new great features of recent Visual Annotate releases, including:

  • Embedded ‘Diff’ plus track changes and annotation – view them in one screen for a better root cause analysis. ClearCase Diff Annotate Click to see examples.
  • New and improved user interface. Click to see examples.
  • Show who really made the change and where it was actually changed. Assuming you annotate a file from within integration stream/branch (and that’s OK), you will get the version and username who changed it on the integration branch, but is that really all that you want to know? Visual Annotate can explore further (in reverse \ backward mode) to give you the version and user who really made that change. Click to learn more.
  • Integration with ClearCase Explorer
  • Integration with R&D Reporter, our development intelligence tool. Now you can get development status reports with full coverage, from the UCM project level down to code line level! Click to learn what you get in R&D Reporter latest version.
  • Display the code in layers of colors, separated by date, username, versions, activities and more. This is very useful when you have to quickly determine the linkage among code sections (e.g. find all code sections that were checked-in in a certain version, certain activity, date, user etc.). Watch a screenshot example .
  • Quickly locate all code sections and functions that were removed in earlier versions
  • Lines of Code (LOC) pie-charts. You can easily produce LoC and code-churn charts that inform you about the code lines distribution in the file version you annotate. Click to learn more
  • And more… click to learn more

Visual Annotate is offered in floating license or node-locked license.
